Taking care of sensitive skin can be a bit more complicated than keeping other skin types glowing, but don’t fret! With a bit of insight and a few quick tips, you can be well on your way to properly caring for your skin — and creating that complexion you’ve always wanted.


Drink plenty of water.

Water is the ultimate tool in your skin care toolbox. Whether you like your H2O plain, with lemon, or with cucumber slices, drinking plenty of water throughout the day can help transform your skin from the inside out. Staying hydrated can clear and brighten your complexion, and provides other health benefits that are simply too wonderful to pass up (such as detoxification and aiding digestion).


So, how much water should you drink? That varies from one person to another, but a great rule of thumb is to try to drink at least eight glasses of water each day. You might also try drinking half of your body weight in ounces of water. You’ll feel it when you’re properly hydrated, so pay close attention to your body and track your intake to get a feel for how much you need each day.


Use plant-based products.

Skin care products made from harsh chemicals can cause irritation for sensitive skin. Instead of using products brimming with chemical ingredients, try plant-based products. Oftentimes, these products are just as effective as their chemical counterparts, but are much gentler on the skin.


What kinds of plant-based ingredients should you look for? Black cumin seed is a natural anti-inflammatory. Artificial or added fragrances are some of the most irritating ingredients in skin care products. Oftentimes, people who think they have an adverse reaction to a moisturizer or other skin care product are actually reacting badly to the perfume used to scent it. The bad news? Scented products are everywhere. But you do have options if you want to smell great and take care of your sensitive skin!

Exfoliation is great, but don’t overdo it.

Sensitive skin is prone to blemishes and a dull complexion, and exfoliation can help both of these issues; however, over-exfoliating your sensitive skin can cause a shock of inflammation.
